Ducarroz wins European Championships

By Brandon Sparks

Nikita Ducarroz, former resident of Glen Ellen and a bronze medal Olympian in this year’s freestyle BMX competition, has become the European Champion at the UEC European BMX Park Championships in Moscow, Russia.

This was one of the final competitions of the year, and Ducarroz made sure to cap off her historic year in style. The competition also marked one of Ducarroz’s first times in Russia, and although she wasn’t able to explore much due to being on the job, she still enjoyed everything about her time in the country and appreciated the amazing Russian people who hosted the event, saying “I can’t wait to go back.”

One of the best parts of the competition, Ducarroz expressed to, was the course itself.

“The level (of riding) wasn’t as high as Tokyo, as I think everyone is still sort of coming back into their routine. The course, however, was the best course I’ve ever ridden in my entire life, and I had so much fun. I could have kept riding it for weeks,” she said.

Ducarroz was so confident in her win that in the final round she ended up trying out new tricks, which ended up shortening the full run, but she was glad she tried them out. This will be her final competition of the year, which has seen her improve from being a fourth place or lower competitor a few years ago to standing on top of a podium at every event she went to this season.

“Now it’s time to get back to the grind and put in the work for the next season and Olympic run. It’s not going to be easy; the level is insane with no signs of stopping, so I have a lot of time to put in if I want to continue this way,” said Ducarroz.
