To the Editor:

A place for veterans and homeless

The Sonoma Developmental Center (SDC) could be a safe place. There is already a fire department, police station, hospital, laundry, water source, gas, electricity, sewer, housing, land to grow food and have animals, and open space. Yes, it needs a lot of work, let’s get started!

The state has a surplus of money. Instead of paying the cost of keeping people in jail, pay for keeping them out. People need shelter, food, and respect.

Some of the houses could start housing people now. Something is better than nothing. People living there could help; these people have skills and talent. Let them be part of this and regain respect and self-worth.

For those who don’t want to be in a dry place, let them have a safe place to park their cars or have tents, with showers, toilets, and garbage cans.

Our vets served us. Now it is time to serve them. Use Yountville as an example.

Let the wildlife have their safe corridor. Keep the history and what the SDC stood for, helping the less fortunate.

The SDC should not have been closed down. Help our veterans and homeless. The three alternative plans from the county are ______ _____ _____! My Mom said not to talk like that.
