KFD Crab Feed 2022 canceled

By Melissa Dowling

In light of the Sonoma County announcement restricting all indoor events with 50 or more guests and outdoor events with more than 100 people until mid-February, to slow the spread of the COVID-19 omicron variant, the Kenwood Firefighters Association has made the difficult decision to cancel its popular annual crab feed. The crab feed had been scheduled for Feb. 12.

“After thoughtful consideration, we believe it is in the best interest of our community to cancel the 2022 Crab Feed. This decision was not made lightly but, as your fire department, we are not willing to risk the health and well-being of our community,” said Japen Soto, president of the Kenwood Firefighters Association in a recent email to ticketholders.

“We are as disappointed as you,” Soto wrote. “The Crab Feed has been a fun and successful community event, but the risk of holding the event in such uncertain times is not appropriate and not in the best interest of our community. We hope you understand.”

The Kenwood Firefighters Association has contacted those who purchased tickets to offer a full or partial refund, or to allow ticket holders to donate the price of the tickets to the Kenwood Fire District.
