Oakmont Volunteer Helpers needs more drivers and coordinators
From Inside Oakmont
Oakmont Volunteer Helpers (OVH) is now recruiting drivers and coordinators to fulfil the needs of Oakmonters. Volunteers donate their time, cars, and gas to transport Oakmont residents (who are unable to drive themselves) to medical and dental appointments within Santa Rosa.
Volunteer Helpers has provided free transportation for over 30 years. It is truly neighbors helping neighbors. Rider donations can be made to help OVH serve those in the community who need assistance with transportation. Donations are tax deductible to the extent of the law.
Drivers determine their availability – there is no specific time requirement. Each ride takes approximately 2 hours, and the driver has some free time before picking up the rider at the end of the appointment. OVH has general liability insurance to supplement the volunteer drivers’ personal insurance.
A coordinator works one (or two) twoweek periods a year. Each day it takes about an hour or less to match up ride requests with available drivers.
The roster of drivers has decreased over the past 3 years, accentuating the need to have more drivers as the volume of rides increases. Also, there are lots of two-week coordinator slots to fill for the second half of the year. For both the drivers and coordinators there is tremendous satisfaction in supporting this wonderful service for our community. It is truly a win-win for everyone.
