Road repairs in Sonoma County proceed
By Mia Epstein
Sonoma County roads damaged by the 2017 wildfires are in the process of being repaved, which is exciting news for anyone in the county whose road is filled with holes or rocks that fly up when you drive. Team Ghilotti, Inc. (TGI) is under contract with the county to perform work on the roads as part of the 2017 Fire Debris Damaged Roads Paving Project. Work will take place from May 23 through Nov. 25.
According to Sean Durenberger, Project Manager and Estimator, the order of operations for the repaving process is clearing the roadsides within three feet of the pavement, such as cutting lowhanging branches, and mowing vegetation, and then repairing damaged sections of the road and overlaying the existing road with new asphalt. Work will be done north to south, and the process is underway and on schedule. Clearing is about 70% complete as of June 23. An important detail is road closure. Cavedale Road is too narrow for both work and one-way traffic, causing a necessary closure for traffic during its scheduled construction duration. The closure is from Cavedale’s junction with Highway 12 to Cavedale’s intersection with Trinity Road. To help everyone who resides on that road or drives in the area, a detour will route thrutravelers north along Highway 12, then east on Trinity Road, and vice versa, to avoid the construction zone.
Another noteworthy detail is that all work will be performed under “one-way” traffic controls. This will limit daily property access during the scheduled work times. Work times are as follows: 7 a.m. through 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 7 a.m. through 3 p.m. on Friday. Saturday and Sunday hours are either 9 a.m. through 7 p.m. or 9 a.m. through 5 p.m., respectively.
The schedule for road construction in the Glen Ellen, Kenwood, and Oakmont regions is Rollo Road, June 30 through July 26; Old Bennett Ridge Road, July 1 through July 27; Bennett Ridge Road, June 23 through July 14; Bardy Road, June 27 through July 25; Schultz Road, July 7 through July 29; Mervin Avenue, July 20 through Aug. 23; Lawndale Road, July 12 through Aug. 18; Kenilworth Avenue, July 18 through Aug. 22; Keiser Road, July 6 through Aug. 3; Bristol Road, July 5 through Aug. 2; Sylvia Drive, July 28 through Sept. 1; O’Donnell Lane, Aug. 4 through Sept. 13; Trinity Road (bottom), July 26 through Sept. 1; Henno Road, July 29 through Sept. 7; Dunbar Road, July 21 through Aug. 30; Bonnie Way, July 27 through Sept. 1; Adine Court, July 28 through Sept. 1; Trinity Road (top), Aug. 12 through Sept. 15; Moon Mountain Drive, Sept. 6 through Sept. 28; Cavedale Road, Aug. 12 through Sept. 26; and Wood Valley Road, Sept.14 through Oct. 7. Completion dates may vary by a buffer of up to two weeks.
