Sonoma Community Center offers Kitchen Concert

July’s concert features Deborah Kinney and Merritt Booster

This month’s Kitchen Concert, on Sunday, July 31, promises to be another exciting night of music. The well-loved Kitchen Concerts, produced by charismatic vocal coach Cynthia Tarr, will once again showcase two of her talented singers.

Deborah Kinney and Merritt Booster have been long-term members of Tarr’s gospel choir, the Free Spirits, and have performed in her popular biannual recitals, the ’50s concerts, as well as in the monthly Sing Things Zoomed during the pandemic.

Kinney and Booster have been friends for nearly 30 years and discovered a mutual joy in making music. Kinney’s interests range from American traditional to “almost current” popular songs. Booster has sung in choirs most of her life, ranging from symphonic to barbershop, but has the most fun singing folk songs with her brothers, exploring Celtic and other world music, and harmonizing with other singers.

The concert begins at 6 p.m. in room 110 at the Sonoma Community Center, 276 East Napa St., in Sonoma. Wine and cookies will be available before the show and at intermission. Tickets are $15 dollars at the door, with proceeds going to the center’s music program.
