Free Community Day at Jack London State Historic Park

On Sept. 25, Community Day will be held at Jack London State Historic Park in Glen Ellen, with free admission, entertainment, and activities from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Family-friendly entertainment will be provided throughout the day, reprising portions of the previous night’s fundraising gala, “Once Upon a Time in a Not So Distant Forest.”

Activities and entertainment will be provided by the following organizations: Sonoma Community Center, with demonstrations of printmaking, botanical watercolors, and a pottery wheel; Art Escape Sonoma, whose truck will be at the park from noon to 3 p.m.; Community Health Center, celebrating 30 years and offering games for kids and blood pressure and body mass index (BMI) readings; ViVO Youth Orchestra, performing twice during the day; Mayflower Chorus, presenting two performances; Sonoma Arts Live, with a trunk full of costumes and props for photos and play; and the Native Bird Connections, bringing two live raptors for attendees to meet.

“This is a celebration by the community for the community. We invite everyone to enjoy a day at the park and meet our participating partners,” said Executive Director Matt Leffert.

The Picazo Truck and Sweet Scoops Ice Cream will keep everyone fueled with tasty foods. The only ticketed event of the day will be a 4 p.m. concert by acclaimed musician John Fullbright, performing his original music on Charmian’s 1901 Steinway inside the House of Happy Walls Museum. Tickets are available at piano-concert-featuring-john-fullbright/.
