Jaycee Dugard speaks on the power of the human spirit

Jaycee Dugard is an abduction survivor. At just 11 years old, she was kidnapped in South Lake Tahoe while walking to her school bus stop. For the next 18 years, she was held captive in a backyard shed by convicted sex offender Phillip Garrido, and his wife, Nancy. During that time, she gave birth to two daughters, fathered by her captor.

Since her rescue in 2009, she has used her freedom and voice to share her unique survivor experience. She is the founder and president of the JAYC Foundation, an organization created to assist families and individuals that have experienced a severe crisis, challenge, or conflict through a major life disruption; to spread a message of hope, growth, and resiliency through educational and animal-assisted programs; and to encourage the collaboration of various entities to provide “protected spaces” where families can heal.

The next Sonoma Speaker Series will be Monday, Oct. 3, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Hanna Center Auditorium. Tickets are $35 for general admission and $75 for VIP seats, and go on sale Sept. 5.
