Readers rejoice: Book fair returns

By Julie Ruth

Book lovers of Kenwood, Glen Ellen, and Oakmont will be delighted that the Friends of the Santa Rosa Libraries’ Fall Book Fair is returning to the Veterans Memorial Building in Santa Rosa after a nearly three-year hiatus due to COVID-19.

From Friday, Sept. 30, to Monday, Oct. 3, the Friends will be offering their biggest assortment yet — more than 60,000 books, DVDs, and CDs. Treasures and great finds abound in fiction, mysteries, memoirs/ biographies, arts and culture, history, science and nature, social sciences, health and wellness, and more. Most items are at bargain prices: $2/hardback, $1.50/ paperback, $1/children’s book, $3/DVD, and $2/CD. Even better, Sunday is “half-price” day, and Monday is “bag day,” at $5/bag.

The communities of Kenwood, Glen Ellen, and Oakmont have always been strong supporters of the Friends’ book sales, not only due to the great assortment, but also because all proceeds benefit Sonoma County libraries and their programs. It’s a great way to stock up for fall and winter reading while “reusing,” and to support reading and literacy programs in Sonoma County.

The sale will be at the Veterans Memorial Building, 1351 Maple Ave., in Santa Rosa. There will be a members’ preview on Friday, Sept. 30, from 2 to 3 p.m. (if you’re not already a member, you can join at the door for $10). The sale will be open to the public Friday, Sept. 30, from 3 to 7 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Half-Price Day); and Monday, Oct. 3, from 2 to 6 p.m. ($5 per Bag Day).
