SVCAC to hear GE mixed-use project

The Sonoma Valley Citizens Advisory Commission will review the design of a mixed-use project in downtown Glen Ellen at its meeting on Wednesday, May 22, 6:30 p.m., in the Sonoma City Council Chambers, 177 First St. West in Sonoma.

The proposal involves a building at 13647 Arnold Dr., currently consisting of four commercial units, two of them occupied by Garden Court Café and McCormick’s Mercantile, and two unoccupied. Also, currently, there are two occupied residential units, and a 6,000-square-foot parking lot.

The proposal, by Stephen and Holly Sorkin and their Abraham’s Farm LLC out of Sonoma, would convert the two vacant commercial units into four one-bedroom apartments, subdivide the existing second floor apartment into two one-bedroom spaces, and build another residential unit on top of the restaurant. One of the residential units would be slated as low-income/affordable.

Also on the May 22 agenda is a proposal for a 400-case winery at 29680 Hyde Road in Sonoma. The application states that there would be no tasting, and asks for four wine club events a year with a maximum of 200 people.

The SVCAC reviews development proposals in Sonoma Valley and makes recommendations to the official planning agencies in Sonoma County and the City of Sonoma.
