A new face in Kenwood

The newest addition to the Kenwood Fire Protection Districtís fleet, Engine 3181, arrived in Kenwood on May 15. The new Type 1 fire engine, purchased from Pierce Manufacturing in Wisconsin, cost approximately $720,000 and was funded in part by generous donations from community members in the wake of the October 2017 fires. The engine has a computer controlled electrical system, allowing operators to control multiple systems from more than one location, a 500 horsepower engine, and all-LED lighting for safety. Due to all that additional lighting and more reflectors, which make it more visible at night, the fire department opted for old-school red instead of the iconic yellow, which their trucks have been painted since the late 1980s.
