GE Firefighters Association raising funds for facility expansion

By George Psaledakis, Glen Ellen Firefighters Association

The Glen Ellen Firefighters Association is requesting the public support for our latest fundraising efforts.

Our current goal is to enhance seismic safety of our existing facility at 13445 Arnold Dr., and provide an opportunity to shorten firefighter response times to events by creating additional sleeping quarters.

This effort began in 2012 with a study of existing facilities. Preliminary investigations for both a seismic upgrade and second story were feasible from a cost review. The next component to coordinate is an operational study to determine how best an expansion will be staffed by minimizing any community financial burden.

Glen Ellen Fire Department (GEFD) has had a long and supportive history from the community. GEFD is one of five such departments in the county that does not impose a benefit assessment tax on fire district constituents. Funding comes from donations and the County of Sonoma General Fund only. Other funding sources from grants are being pursued by our department to assist with cost offsets.

Our goal is to raise over $1.25 million dollars. This amount is based on a 2012 building study. Donations can be directed to: Glen Ellen Firefighters Association, 13445 Arnold Dr., Glen Ellen, CA 95442. Note donations to be earmarked for Building Enhancement Fund.
