Fire safety in Oakmont topic of discussion
Oakmont Berger Center
Thursday January 24th - 2:00pmOn Thursday, Jan. 24, the Oakmont Fire Safety Committee presents a panel discussion at the Oakmont Berger Center on creating and maintaining safety zones around properties and neighborhoods. Panelists include Dr. Doug Houston, a Paradise Valley resident who saved his property and others by creating defensible space over a period of years in his wooded valley home; Jeff Kunde, a Kenwood resident, who created a firebreak by bulldozing his property’s perimeter; Supervisor Susan Gorin, an Oakmont resident, who will give an update on the county’s plans and actions; and Oakmont resident David Dearden, who will discuss grants submitted by the Oakmont Village Association (OVA) to Cal Fire programs and what residents might expect if Oakmont is awarded monies for fire safety. Audience questions will be honored the last 30 minutes of the program. Light refreshments will be served afterward. The event runs 2-3:30 p.m.
This event is part of the OVA Fire Safety Committee’s efforts to educate residents about what measures they can take to help save life, property and the environment in and around Oakmont in case of fire. Other Fire Safety Committee events will include a showing of a taped presentation by Fire Safe Sonoma’s Caerleon Safford on Jan. 21 at the West Recreation Center at 1 p.m. This video will also be shown at the Oakmont Garden Club’s Feb. 19 meeting, 10 a.m. at the Berger Center, and again at 6 p.m. at the East Recreation Center, providing the center’s remodel is complete. All Oakmont residents and guests are invited.
