Volunteer training begins at Quarryhill Botanical Garden
Quarryhill Botanical Garden
Wednesday July 24th - 9:00amQuarryhill Botanical Garden is calling for for volunteers to train as docents for their 2019-2020 Education Program for Sonoma County fourth and fifth graders. Docent training runs Wednesdays, July 24-Aug. 28, 9 a.m.-noon.
Quarryhill offers youth an immersive garden tour that increases their understanding of and appreciation for the natural world. It’s a chance for elementary students to experience a beautiful garden and supplement their classroom botanical education with a distinctive outdoor experience – teaching them about adaptation, conservation, plant anatomy and biology, and the importance of plants.
Quarryhill is on track to host 1,400 students this coming academic year in its science education program, but in order to accommodate this growing demand, they need more youth education docents.
Volunteers are not required to have a botanical or horticultural background. Quarryhill staff will teach them everything they need to know. Volunteers just need to have a passion for teaching children and be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays to conduct tours. Training will end with shadowing during the first month of tours in September (Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:30 a.m.-noon).
