New book about SugarloafSugarloaf State Park’s history docent Larry Maniscalco has combined all his Sugarloaf writings into A Sugarloaf Reader: A Cultural History of Sugarloaf Ridge State Park.
Sugarloaf Ridge State Park was opened to the public in 1969. Before that time, the area was occupied by a variety of persons including Native Americans, hardscrabble homesteaders, gentlemen ranchers, and a smattering of coal-producing colliers, weekend hunters, scout troops, and itinerant hippies. This book reviews this rich and often fascinating cultural history of the park from prehistory to the present day and makes a great gift for park lovers.
The book costs $13.75 and is available at the Sugarloaf Visitors Center and on Amazon.com. Proceeds from the sales will be donated to the park.
