And the winner is …

There were few surprises locally in the recent election, and no new faces for our legislators and other representatives. In this issue, Alec Peters covers the two stories with major impacts: local parks and fire districts (page 7). Here’s a short roundup of the rest for those who managed to sleep through the Nov. 6 ballyhoo.

Kenwood’s Jeff Kunde handily won re-election to the Santa Rosa Junior College Board of Trustees. Elections for SRJC used to be at-large, but starting with this election cycle, board members are now elected in five newly formed trustee areas, ours being the SRJC District Sonoma Area.

The Sonoma Area had the only contested race, which pitted Kunde against John Kelly. Kunde captured 67 percent of the 18,741 votes cast and will serve another four years.

Our state and national representatives will not change. Senator Dianne Feinstein, Congressman Mike Thompson (CA-2), State Senators Mike McGuire (S2) and State Assembly Members Cecilia Aguiar-Curry (AD4) and Jim Wood (AD2), all coasted to clear victories in their re-election bids.

None of these state legislators are close to their term limits; McGuire and Wood can serve until 2026 and Aguiar-Curry can serve until 2028. All can be elected to state office for a lifetime total of 12 years.

Sonoma County voters differed with the statewide consensus on one item: Proposition 3 to issue bonds for water projects, with 52.4 percent for and 47.6 percent against. Statewide, the proposition failed with 52.2 percent against.
