Oakmont re-elects its board of directors

Oakmont is retaining its board of directors for at least another year. Elected to two-year terms on April 1 were Al Medeiros, Heidi Klyn, Noel Lyons and Carolyn Bettencourt.

Steve Spanier was re-elected president and Tom Kendrick as vice president, both unanimously, at the organizational meeting following the election. Klyn was elected secretary without opposition to succeed Marianne Neufeld. Elke Strunka was re-elected treasurer 7-0.

Spanier, noting that “some big issues” face the community, thanked the incumbents for their commitment to another two years. “That’s not an easy decision, by the way,” he said. “No one could have been blamed for saying ‘You know, I think I’m just going to play pickleball for a while.’”

Wally Schilpp, a former director and 25-year resident of Oakmont, called the election result “the best board we’ve ever had. A hell of a unifying board.”

Spanier said he was humbled by his re-election as president and is looking forward to another term. Lyons said that while residents often call serving on the board a thankless job, he gets lot of support from the community. Medeiros said the board has worked well; better than he expected.

Vote totals:

Al Medeiros 1,171

Heidi Klyn 1,165

Noel Lyons 1,143

Carolyn Bettencourt 953

Steve Huntley 831
