Diane Marie Celi, memorial June 3

Diane Marie Celi, 66, passed away Dec. 2, 2018, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Diane was born May 16, 1952, in Syracuse, New York, to Dominic and Doris Celi and spent most of her young adult years there apart from residing for a brief time in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. She moved to Sonoma in 1999 where she thrived, pursuing a variety of career paths.

Diane received her BA in Music from Syracuse University and became a concert-level classical pianist.

She gave lessons for many years both privately and in area schools. She also became a well-liked and flexible substitute teacher and tutor. She served many years as a travel consultant as both an agent and teacher, organizing tour groups, which allowed her to take numerous domestic and international trips and see worldwide sights. She worked in the wine industry at several local wineries. She became a skilled jewelry maker and her lovely items now adorn many local residents. Her wide-ranging interests included movie-going, art museum visits, journeys by car around California, hiking, butterfly gardens, spa weekends and wildlife sanctuaries.

A life-long vegetarian, she loved Indian, Nepalese and Asian food and had a well-known passion for chocolate and pastries. Festive dinners in her home were followed by Yahtzee, Bananagrams or Trivial Pursuit games and lively conversation. Friends agree Diane was not reticent about expressing her opinion on topics of the day that were on her mind. That mind was greatly nourished by countless books. Her friends were graced with her positive energy, her generous spirit, her talent and her daily fortitude.

Diane is survived by her mother, sister, two brothers and many cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as a beautiful, resilient and soulful kitty named Halston.

A celebration of life will take place on June 3, 4-6 p.m., at the Adobe Mission, Cline Cellars, 24737 Arnold Dr., Sonoma. Please RSVP by calling Katherine at 235-8488.

Memorial contributions can be made to the following organizations: Pets Lifeline,; Cannon School of Music (for Piano Lessons), Sonoma,; Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue,; Fawn Rescue,; Sierra Club,
