SEC seeks partnership with Sonoma Creek landowners

Sonoma Ecology Center (SEC) is seeking landowners with property located along upper Sonoma Creek from Madrone Road to Adobe Canyon who are interested in improving stewardship of creek habitat and water resources.

SEC has received a grant from California Department of Fish and Wildlife to commission Environmental Science Associates (ESA), a restoration design and engineering firm with local ties to the community, to develop a restoration vision for upper Sonoma Creek.

The project’s goal is to create a Restoration Vision booklet and design a demonstration project to improve things like Steelhead spawning and rearing habitat, high flow refuge for steelhead, reduce the risk of property damage from erosion or flooding along Sonoma Creek, improve creek water quality, and remove invasive plants and restore native plants. Conceptual designs will be presented to the community in February 2020, with completion of the demonstration project projected for 2023.

If you are an interested landowner contact SEC at creek@sonomaecologycenter.org or 996-0712.
