Robert William DeLacy, 1963-2019

Robert William DeLacy was born on Nov. 5, 1963, in Sacramento, and reared there. He was always an outgoing personality, taking drama classes in high school and acting in at least one local play. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard and served for four years after receiving culinary specialist training, two years of that on the ice breaker Polar Star, and the remaining two years on the cutter Morgenthau. That training equipped him with a knowledge of accounting and purchasing, inventory management, leadership, and time management, which prepared him for his principal work, overseeing concessions for major sports and event corporations.

He worked for restaurants in Sacramento after his U.S.C.G. service, and then worked for Fanfare in 1999 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway until 2002, when he started working for Levy Restaurants as concessions supervisor at the same speedway. That move eventually led to an assignment at Levy’s concession at Sonoma Raceway in 2006. He moved to Kenwood, where he made many good friends. He also worked at Oracle Arena, becoming purchasing manager and then senior purchasing manager for professional sporting events hosted there.

Given the seasonal basis of speedway and sporting events, he also spent several years working oversight at the Kentucky Derby and spent several weeks as operations manager for the BNP Paribas Open tennis masters matches in Indian Wells.

Bob loved his family first, his job second, and was always generous in helping his friends. He rarely put the top up on his venerable Miata convertible when driving around Northern California and Nevada, preferring fresh air, even in the rain at times.

Bob was a passenger in a 1946 Jeep that overturned going down an unpaved trail at the June 22 Sonoma Raceway NASCAR event. He suffered massive brain injuries and never recovered consciousness. He died on July 5 when life support was removed.

Bob will be forever remembered by his parents, Patricia Ann DeLacy of Phoenix and William Edward DeLacy of Loomis, his stepmother Rosie DeLacy of Loomis, his ex-wife Tricia Owens of Sacramento, daughters Jessi Kaylen (Kevin) Moldenhauer of Minneapolis, Taylor Elizabeth DeLacy of San Diego, sister Charmaine (Joseph) Marck of Phoenix, nephew Sean Marck of Seattle, niece Christine (Jimi) and great-niece Evie Gaylor of Goodyear, Arizona.

A memorial service will be held on Aug. 12, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Sonoma Raceway. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
