Cell tower proposed in Glen Ellen
In July, Verizon Wireless filed for a use permit to put up a telecommunications facility on property on Old Bennett Trail in Glen Ellen.
The location is an alternative to one Verizon first proposed in 2016, at 2550 Warm Springs Road. Neighbors objected to that location, and the application was eventually withdrawn at the beginning of this year. The new location is 350 Old Bennett Trail, a four-acre parcel. The proposed facility consists of nine Verizon wireless panel antennas mounted on a 71-foot faux tree. The property is located more than 300 feet from Bennett Valley Road.
The facility, similar to other designs, will have the ability to accommodate antennas from other carriers.
In its application, Verizon states that there is a need to improve wireless communication coverage to northwest Glen Ellen, along Bennett Valley and Warm Springs Roads.
“The proposed location best serves the interest of Sonoma County and the local community because it is the least intrusive means available to improve service to the area,” the application states. “The project is generally not visible from public view because of intervening vegetation.”
