Forum to award replant grant money

For the past year, the Glen Ellen Forum has taken the lead in supporting those in the Glen Ellen community impacted by the October 2017 wildfires. Most recently, the nonprofit has been distributing new storage sheds to fire victims, with grant monies donated from the Rotary Club of Glen Ellen-Kenwood, Beltane Ranch, and the United Way of Wine Country. By June, the forum had provided a total of 30 sheds to those who had entered the nonprofit’s lottery. However, there were still a handful of people left on a waiting list.

This month, the forum became a recipient of a $5,000 grant as part of the RiseUp Community Impact Grants program, a partnership between the Rebuild NorthBay Foundation and United Way of Wine Country. This newest grant enabled the forum to purchase three additional sheds, meaning everyone who applied to the forum’s lottery has now been able to get a shed.

There was money left over from this second round of helping that will fund a new lottery for fire survivors who need help with landscaping as they rebuild their burned lots. The forum now has available 11 gift cards, worth $300 each, to either Sonoma Valley Wholesale Nursery or Urban Tree Farm Nursery, which will be given away by lottery drawing next month.

Applications for this lottery are due by Friday, Sept. 13. Visit glenellen.org to download an application. Drawing will take place on Sept. 15.

The RiseUp Community Grants program was launched by Rebuild NorthBay Foundation in Spring of 2019 to provide financial support for longterm fire recovery. To date, through Rebuild NorthBay Foundation, the RiseUp Grant program has awarded $62,500 to organizations recognized for their work and the positive impact they make in their communities.

In addition to the Glen Ellen Forum, this year’s grant recipients are the University of California Cooperative Extension Sonoma County, The LIME Foundation, News of the North Bay, The Office of Resiliency and Recovery, Sonoma County, Lake County Community Risk Reduction Authority, Mendocino County Fire Safe Council, North Bay Construction Corps, and Wolf Creek Firewise Community.
