Dunbar area school board rep steps down
Nicole Abaté Ducarroz, the Sonoma Valley Unified School District (SVUSD) board member representing the Dunbar Elementary School attendance area in Glen Ellen, is retiring.
Ducarroz is stepping down after serving nearly four terms on SVUSD’s board of trustees. She is the longest serving trustee in the history of SVUSD. Her last day will be Oct.1.
Ducarroz said she is retiring to focus on the career of her daughter, Nikita Ducarroz, a top ranked BMX freestyle rider who is trying to make the U.S. Olympic team for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
“Over the years, it has been my honor to serve so many students and families and support so many extraordinary educators,” said Ducarroz. “I am confident I am leaving the district in competent hands, with a solid and unified board that understands the wonderful attributes of SVUSD and also the challenges.”
“We are losing an anchor to board history and expertise,” said SVUSD Superintendent Socorro Shiels.
Fellow board member John Kelly praised Ducarroz’ contributions and her, “legacy of public service that is a tribute to her community, her family, and her strength of character.”
Anyone interested in filling Ducarroz’ Dunbar attendance area seat should fill out an application, which can be obtained online at www.sonomaschools.org.
Qualified applicants must live in the Dunbar attendance area and be a registered voter. An informational meeting for prospective candidates will be held in early October.
