Reminder – Some areas at SDC not open to public



While most of the Sonoma Developmental Center property is still open to the public, the campus police have specifically asked the public to respect those areas that are off limits. J. Irigoyen, the chief of protective services for the Department of Developmental Services, spelled out the forbidden areas in a public letter on Aug. 29.

“Specifically, individuals are prohibited from accessing both reservoirs (for fishing or swimming), areas affected by the recent fires (including the farm area and Sunrise Industries), and all vacant buildings and parking lots. For the public’s safety, and for the safety of staff members who remain on campus, these closed areas are marked with barricades, yellow tape, and signs. Entering these closed areas is considered trespassing.”

While he expects public compliance, Irigoyen wrote, “If voluntary compliance is not successful, officers will take the appropriate enforcement action to curtail trespassing.”
