Ahoy! Yacht club hands out booty to the community

Bob Taylor accepts a check from Smothers Brothers
KSVY Radio’s Chief Operator Bob Taylor accepts a check for $1,500 from the iconic comedy duo Tommy and Dick Smothers on behalf of the Jack London Yacht Club (JLYC). KSVY is putting the money toward the purchase of a second transmitter.
On Sunday, Sept. 8, the Jack London Yacht Club held its annual grant distribution event at Valley of the Moon Winery. The brothers Smothers were there to entertain and help hand out the grants to multiple community groups, totaling $31,250. The monies resulted from fundraising efforts by the JLYC throughout the year, including the Jack to Jack boat race in April. The race, a 0.7-mile course on Sonoma Creek from Jack London Lodge to Jack London Village, featured replicas of Jack London’s sailboat, the Snark, which he and his wife Charmian sailed across the South Pacific in 1907.

Other recipients of 2019 grants are the Glen Ellen Fair Association, Glen Ellen Fire Department, Glen Ellen Forum, Glen Ellen Historical Society, Jack London Park Partners, Kenwood Fire Department, Marine Conservation Institute, Mayacamas Volunteer Fire Department, Michael J. Fox Foundation, Pets Lifeline, Rotary Club of Glen Ellen-Kenwood, Sonoma Ecology Center, Sonoma Valley Mentoring Alliance, Teen Services Sonoma, and Transcendence Theatre.
