Business as usual?

Glen Ellen Star pizza mobile during power outage
On Wednesday, Oct. 9, more than 500,000 PG&E customers were without power. The planned power outage affected customers from Humboldt County through Santa Clara County, including most of Sonoma Valley, but many businesses made the best of it. It was a family effort at the Glen Ellen Star. Chef and owner Ari Weiswasser (back, right) got help with a mobile pizza oven from his daughters Noa (far right), Hayley (at left, with “open” sign), and Riley (not pictured), who were out of school for the day. Some schools, like Kenwood Elementary School, who recently bought back-up generators, did manage to stay open on Wednesday and into Thursday. St. Francis Winery was also prepared and able to serve customers through the outage. The Kenwood Market was open, but struggled to keep their ice cream cold and offered an impromptu flash sale on frozen items. Photo by Alec Peters
