Hike and learn about SDC and Sonoma Mountain

Join Glen Ellen-based writer and editor Tracy Salcedo on Feb. 22, 10 a.m.-noon, on an exploration of possibilities as redevelopment of Eldridge (the former Sonoma Developmental Center) enters the planning phase. The focus of this easy walking tour will be on place.

Experience firsthand the physical and intangible relationships of the campus to Sonoma Mountain and surrounding open spaces. Explore Eldridge’s complex history and current efforts to secure the future of the campus and its wildlands, and share personal connections to the property.

The walk will be an easy three miles; about two hours. Meet on Harney in front of the PEC (the iconic brick building). Limited to 20 walkers. All ages are welcome, including canine companions on leashes.

Extreme weather cancels, but otherwise the walk takes place rain or shine. Wear or bring appropriate layers for all possibilities, and comfortable walking shoes; hiking boots are not necessary. Bring a notebook if you’d like.

To register, go to www.eventbrite.com and search for “Eldridge.”

This event will take place April 12.
