Politics on Tap

State Senator Bill Dodd (D-Napa) was busy in Sonoma County in mid-February. He joined county supervisors Susan Gorin and David Rabbitt for a photo-op announcing a proposed toll for Highway 37 to help pay the staggering cost of fixing the North Bay corridor before climate change swamps it with rising sea levels – predicted to happen over the next 30 years. The Howard Jarvis folks in Sacramento think toll roads are OK as long as there is a parallel free road next to the toll highway for the poor folks.

Dodd later joined Jack London Park Partners Board of Directors at the park’s iconic museum to welcome new Executive Director Matt Leffert and bid farewell to outgoing director Tjiska van Wyk. Dodd presented her with a large, framed state proclamation recognizing her remarkable achievements in bringing Glen Ellen’s unique park back from the brink of forced closure eight years ago. It is now one of California’s top performing parks, attracting over 100,000 people last year alone. [See front page photo.]

Dodd is also a co-signer on Mike McGuire’s SB944 which will provide California tax breaks for homeowner fire protection expenses such as clearing vegetation and hardening their homes against fire. (See story, page 1.)

First District Supervisor Election 2020

In terms of campaign finances, while Gorin certainly has a lot more money in her campaign fund, Cook has been attracting some serious money in his bid to replace the incumbent, gathering in nearly $15,000 since January and another $6,000 in just two days after that. His largest donation to date was $3,190 from Robert Sanabria.

Gorin has been given $26,500 (roughly) since Jan. 1 and another $1,000 since Feb. 19. Her top angel was Barbara Banke, also donating $3,190.

For some obscure reason, $3,190 is the maximum donation allowed in California Supervisor races. Both have spent most of what they’ve taken in this election season on printed material and campaign managers.
