County warns vacation rental owners
Permit Sonoma recently sent notice to registered vacation rental owners that, due to the county’s Shelter in Place orders in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the county allows only businesses performing essential services to continue operations.
Operation of a vacation rental for regular transient occupancy is not considered an essential service under this order. Continued operation of a vacation rental, except as follows, is considered a violation of the Shelter in Place order and will result in code enforcement action.
Short term rentals, including vacation rentals and hotels, may only operate as an essential business if they:
- Provide shelter for economically disadvantaged or other individuals in need, including individuals needing housing to ensure adequate social distancing.
- Support housing necessary for an essential business to operate (e.g. housing traveling nurses).
- Short term rentals can also be converted to month to month or longer term rentals to provide shelter for community members.
