Kiwanis Club pancake breakfast
Tickets are now available for the Oakmont Kiwanis Club’s Annual Pancake breakfast. This will be the club’s 20th annual breakfast. Tickets are available from any member of the Kiwanis Club and as always a hearty breakfast is promised. The breakfast will be held at the Oakmont Gardens from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, June 13. Tickets are $7 per person and $4 for children under 12.
Our annual pancake breakfast is the major fundraiser for the Oakmont Kiwanis Club. Kiwanis International is dedicated to helping children and all funds raised at our fundraisers go to children in the area. Our administrative expenses are covered by the members, and 100% of all profit from our fundraisers goes to better the lives of children.
In addition to financially aiding children, and contributing many man-hours to several schools, our club has adopted the Kenwood Elementary School. Each year, club members and their spouses spend one morning with the children at Kenwood reading with them. This has become a very special day for both the Kiwanis members and their spouses, but also for the kids at the school. The Club has also been very active with the Kenwood Education Foundation. Other organizations that we have supported are the Salvation Army and the Valley of the Moon Children’s Home. Considering that a number of Oakmont Kiwanis members are octogenarians, it is amazing to see them working at the schools and the Valley of the Moon with picks and shovels removing weeds and doing gardening work usually associated with much younger people.
The Oakmont Kiwanis Club is a very active club and welcomes guests at any of our meetings. We meet at the West Recreation Center each Thursday morning at 7:30 to 8 a.m. for a continental breakfast, and we have a guest speaker at every meeting. The meetings last until 9:30 a.m. Since Oakmont is very close to Kenwood, we have members from there and would welcome anyone from Kenwood to join with us as we are so close to your community and have very much in common.
If anyone would like to attend one of our meetings, he or she should call our president, Jack MacLean at 539-4285, or if you should decide at the last minute that you can attend, just come. You are welcome any time. – Bob Reid
