What’s in store for Developmental Center?
Thank you for your balanced reporting on the potential SDC closure.
I’d like to share a little information about those who seem to welcome the closure of the SDC. Darius Anderson, a real estate developer and lobbyist, purchased the Sonoma Index-Tribune, and is now the partial owner of the Press Democrat. He is founder and CEO of Kenwood Investments. Check out their website at kenwoodinvestments.com and note that they are working on the redevelopment of Treasure Island, a $6 billion project which they identify as “one of the most complicated land entitlements to take place in a major U.S. city.” Locally, Mr. Anderson is preparing to open a winery just south of the Kenwood Inn & Spa, and is working to gain approval for Chateau Sonoma on W. Napa St. in Sonoma.
California Watch has an interest in the SDC, reporting on abuse and mishandling of the investigation, and conducting a recent forum (Jan. 30) on the potential closure of the SDC. I have not seen reporting from them on alternatives to the SDC and the future of SDC residents. They are funded by the James Irvine Foundation, which was started by the Irvine Company, a large developer which originated in Southern California.
My thanks to Rep. Mike Thompson for having a representative at the Jan. 30 forum. Our new county supervisor Susan Gorin was not present and no representative was identified. I encourage Susan Gorin to immediately get actively involved for the citizens of the SDC, the Valley, and preservation of the bucolic open space which is such an irreplaceable and unique asset to our community, wildlife and tourism. The SDC is clearly in the cross-hairs of large-scale real estate developers.
Thank you for supporting the KFA
The Kenwood Firefighter’s Association would like to thank and recognize the following people and businesses for their overwhelming support and donations to our Sixth Annual Crab Feed. The event was a great success and the Firefighter’s Association raised over $12,000 to help fund equipment for our Fire Department.
Your continuing support is greatly appreciated – Thank you!
