Summer science, nature camps
The Sonoma Ecology Center is planning a magical summer. Seven week-long Science Camps will give children the opportunity to learn about science and nature through hands-on experiments and interactive adventures.
This year, the world of Hogwarts comes to Sonoma during Harry Potter’s Sorcerer’s Stone camps in June and July. After being sorted into their respective houses, aspiring wizards will learn how to concoct potions and care for magical creatures while playing Quidditch and other games.
Those who attend either of the Sorcerer’s Stone camps are encouraged to return for the Triwizard Tournament Camp at the end of July, when campers get the chance to compete in the prestigious Triwizard Tournament to determine who best upholds the values of the heralded school of witchcraft and wizardry.
The other weeklong camps include Water Warriors, an exploration of the watershed in Sugarloaf Ridge State Park; Birds, Bugs, and Slugs, an investigation of the flora and fauna in Sonoma Garden Park combined with arts and crafts and games; and Squirmin’ Worms, four days of outdoor games for children ages four and five.
