Arrest in Kenwood assault incident
Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 100 block of Adobe Canyon Road in Kenwood for an alleged assault with a motor vehicle on July 28 at about 4:20 p.m. According to the reporting party an altercation between two acquaintances broke out at the Kenwood property. After the combatants were separated, one of them got into a pickup truck and ran into the victim and then fled the scene. Witnesses also reported that the victim was seen stabbing himself in the stomach just prior to being struck by the pickup.
Deputies arrived on scene and found the victim suffering from blunt force trauma injuries, presumably from being struck by the vehicle, as well as multiple stab wounds to his abdomen. Further investigation confirmed the victim inflicted the stab wounds just before being intentionally struck by the suspect’s pickup.
Deputies responding to the scene encountered the suspect vehicle fleeing toward Sonoma on Hwy. 12 and stopped it. They arrested 35-year-old Matthew Christian of Kenwood without further incident. He was booked into the county jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
Both men had been drinking, according to the sheriff’s department.
As of press time, the victim was at a local hospital in serious condition. Anyone with further information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Violent Crimes Unit at 565-2185.
