County seminar on social media in the workplace
Ninety-four percent of all businesses with a marketing department use social media (i.e., Facebook, Twitter and Google+), to increase brand awareness and communicate over the web. Businesses struggle to keep pace with the evolving technology, finding it increasingly difficult to balance the competing interests of an employee’s privacy against the employer’s security.
The Sonoma County Employer Advisory Council and the county’s Economic Development Department will hold a seminar on Aug. 21, “Social Media in the Workplace and Beyond.” The event takes place from 7:30 to 10 a.m. at the Foxtail Golf Club in Rohnert park.
Employment law attorney Kevin O’Neill will go over the ins and outs of managing social media technologies in the workplace. He’ll also go over how the National Labor Relations Board sees social media. Attendees will learn how to adapt employee handbooks to include specific social media policies.
Registration for the seminar ends Aug. 14. Cost is $40 for Advisory Council members, and $65 for non-members. Fee includes breakfast buffet, seminar materials and parking. To register call Valerie Nagle at 576-2015, or email her at email@example.com.
