Deal in the works for sale of Kenwood Restaurant
If all goes according to plan, by mid-September the iconic Kenwood Restaurant will change hands. When the deal closes, the new owner will be Bill Foss, who is a co-owner of the very successful and popular Fish Restaurant in Sausalito.
Foss said he is buying the restaurant property as well as an acre of the surrounding vineyard, and will keep the Kenwood Restaurant name. Foss and Fish Restaurant have gained a reputation over the last decade for focusing on sustainable seafood and being involved in a number of environmental causes involving the ocean and its fish population.
Foss said that his food at Kenwood Restaurant will have an über commitment to serving meals sourced from all corners of Sonoma County.
“I've never seen a better place to have raw ingredients,” said Foss. “You can't find better products anywhere.”
The transfer of ownership would be the end of a 26-year run by Max and Susan Schacher. Chef Max has been serving up Wine Country fare for locals and visitors alike, making the Kenwood Restaurant a well established and well frequented eatery right off Sonoma Hwy. Over the years, Schacher has become one of the better known chefs in the area. Foss said he hopes Schacher will stick around for some time after the change in ownership.
Foss, who in another life was one of the founders of Netscape Communications, said he hasn't developed a specific menu yet, but said that, “When you read it, you should get hungry.” Foss is also part of the Canneti Roadhouse Italiana in Forestville.
