Opera lecture at Sonoma library
Local composer John Partridge will present “How to Craft an Opera” at the Sonoma Valley Library, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. The program is free.
Using examples from his and other operas, Partridge will discuss what makes a successful opera, why some of the greatest operas have complicated plotlines, how storytelling and singing relate, and the differences between writing a libretto and writing a play.
Partridge has written opera and musical theater pieces for decades, including, “The Soldiers Who Wanted to Kill Death,” to be shown as a part of the Sonoma Theater Alliance’s “Sonoma Nights” series.
