Flight of Poets
In the spirit of a literary salon that Jack and Charmian London might have hosted, Jack London State Park will present “Flight of Poets,” a creative pairing of wine and poetry, on Sept. 16. Four poets will read their poetry as a local sommelier captures the essence of their words and imagery with the perfect wine selection.
Featured poets are Iris Jamahl Dunkle, whose debut poetry collection, Gold Passage, was selected by Ross Gay for the Trio Award; Katherine Hastings, the author of Cloud Fire, and Nighthawks, executive director of the nonprofit WordTemple, curator of the WordTemple Poetry Series in Sonoma County and host of “WordTemple” on KRCB FM radio; Jane Hirshfield, author of seven books of poetry and recipient of many awards including the California Book Award and the Northern California Book Award and fellowships from the Guggenheim and Rockefeller foundations and the National Endowment for the Arts; Ada Limn, originally from Glen Ellen, author of three collections of poetry which have appeared in numerous magazines including The New Yorker and Harvard Review.
Flight of Poets will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., outside the House of Happy Walls Historic Museum. Tickets (which include parking and wine pairings) are $50, and are available in advance at the Museum store and online at www.jacklondonpark.com.
