Suspect in Glen Ellen burglaries caught
On May 31, there was a rash of thefts from unlocked vehicles, an attempted stolen vehicle and a locked garage entered in the Trinity Road, Bonnie Way, and Sylvia Drive neighborhoods of Glen Ellen. In all, approximately 20 victims had property stolen from their vehicles. In one particular case on Trinity Road, the suspect tried to steal a truck and ended up crashing the truck into the victim’s fence causing extensive damage. The lone suspect fled the scene and his identity wasn’t discovered until recently.
The suspect, Zachary Joseph Mayers, 23 years old, from Santa Rosa, was linked through physical evidence and possession of stolen property to the cases in the Glen Ellen area. On Oct. 17, an arrest warrant was issued for Mayers’ arrest. Mayers was previously arrested in June by the Santa Rosa Police Department for possessing a stolen vehicle and being a convicted felon in possession of ammunition. Mayers pled guilty, and was given a 5 years and 8 month prison sentence, which was suspended. Mayers was released to a Rehab Probation program, but walked away soon after his arrival there. On Oct. 23, Mayers was spotted in a stolen vehicle and a pursuit ensued. Mayers was eventually captured and was booked at the county jail without bail.
