Regional Parks director to speak at Sugarloaf fundraiser

Regional Parks director to speak at Sugarloaf fundraiser

It takes a community to preserve, protect and manage a park like Sugarloaf Ridge State Park. On Sunday, May 18, from 5 to 8:30 p.m., Team Sugarloaf is hosting a dinner with guest speaker Caryl Hart, Director of Sonoma County Regional Parks and member of the Parks Forwards Commission.

Enjoy hors d’oeuvres and wine, and meet some of the leaders from Team Sugarloaf, while Senior Park archeologist Breck Parkman shares the little-known history of Camp Butler.

Following drinks and appetizers, there will be a buffet of flame-roasted tri-tip and lamb with garlic potatoes, grilled spring vegetables, French bread, crisp garden salads and fresh sliced fruit, alongside a roaring fire at the group campground.

During dessert, Hart will discuss the significance of the State Park system and its future.

At dusk, docents will guide you through the Robert Ferguson Observatory, where you’ll be treated to spectacular views of the starry sky.

Attire is wine country casual with a cowboy touch. Walking shoes are a must (please, no heels). The walk to Camp Butler is along a trail and fire road, which is why appropriate walking shoes are so important. Rides to Camp Butler via ATV will be available for those who need a bit of help to get there. Please let the park know in advance.

Cost is $75 per person. Reserve your tickets now at For more information, call 833-5172 or email
