View the Camelopardalid meteor shower from the observatory



On Friday, May 23, you’ll have a great view of the Camelopardalid meteor shower right here in Kenwood.

The Ferguson Observatory in Sugarloaf Ridge State Park will be the place to be starting at 9 p.m. Part of its Star Party series, the observatory will have its three main telescopes available for viewing.

This upcoming Camelopardalid meteor shower is new and has peaked the interest of many astronomers. If the predictions hold true, Earth might be sandblasted with debris from a comet that was discovered in 2004, resulting in a fine display of meteors, or shooting stars on the evening of May 23, and the morning of May 24.

The Robert Ferguson Observatory is the largest in the western United States completely dedicated to public viewing and education.

Cost is $3 per adult (under 18 are free). There is also an $8 per car parking fee. For more information, go to www.rfo.org.
