Memorial plaques for gazebo
Although the idea of having a gazebo in Kenwood’s Plaza Park has been around since the park was first conceived, it came to fruition through the tragic loss of five-year-old Bobby Musser-Kirby who died in 2009. The Musser-Kirby family donated a significant portion of the funds for the gazebo as a memorial to Bobby and other local children who have left us all too soon.
The gazebo is almost finished and many of the volunteers building it have gotten involved in its construction because they, too, have lost a child, either in their immediate or extended families. The Sonoma County Regional Parks Foundation is making available a limited number of memorial plaques to be mounted on the columns inside the gazebo. The plaques are $300 each. Any local families who would like to purchase one of these permanent memorials for a child or young adult may contact Melissa Kelley at the Sonoma County Regional Parks Foundation, 565-2041, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
In addition, the Parks Foundation has two benches that are available as permanent memorials to loved ones of any age. Those will be inside the gazebo as well, and are $5,000 apiece. All contributions are tax-deductible.
