Village Chat

Newlyweds Sierra Strickland and Jason Dahl
Sierra Strickland and Jason Dahl were married on June 22 at the Oakmont Golf Club. Sierra is the daughter of Annette and Will Strickland, and she grew up in Kenwood, and Jason is from Monte Rio and is the son of Kathy Dahl and the late Greg Dahl. Their home is in Santa Rosa. Congratulations, Sierra and Jason!

Rachel Ray and Chris Sauer
Chris Sauer has his own Town Car service based in Oakmont, and he does the usual things, airport runs, wine tours, etc. But last month he had a special client, TV chef and talk show host Rachel Ray. Chris was so impressed with her as a genuinely nice person that he wrote up an account of his day driving her from the Santa Rosa Airport to a wedding at the Kunde Winery and back. You can read all about “My Day with Rachel Ray” by going to www.kenwoodpress.com/files/MyDay.pdf. Thanks, Chris!

Sue and John Campbell are finally back in Kenwood after their adventures sailing around the Pacific and South Pacific for the last year and a half. They started out from Sausalito, and went down to San Diego to visit their son and daughter-in-law Austin and Brooke, who have since had a baby girl, Paisley, the Campbell's first grandchild. From there they sailed down the coast of Mexico, then headed west to French Polynesia and on to Australia. In Australia they sold their boat, Wizard, and flew to the island of Tonga where they spent the winter caretaking a resort before flying home via San Diego in May. John's buddies are glad he's back to help fill out the poker table, and Sue's friends are just glad she's back because they missed her!

The Kenwood School has received a $1,500 grant from the George Archer Memorial Foundation for Literacy for their reading program, an increase of $500 over previous years' donations. The funds will be used to promote literacy and reading comprehension. George Archer, a successful professional golfer, was unable to read beyond the 3rd grade level, and he and his wife created the foundation because they said, “Every child deserves to read.”

Everyone seems to really like the new location for Kenwood's Open Mic, the Rockin' Heart Ranchito (361 Lawndale Road, home of Dale Geist and Laura Hinerfeld.) It all takes place outside on warm summer nights - the next one will be July 17 - and organizer Mark Clementi says the excitement and participation is growing. He sent in this photo of three of the six members of the Rubber Band on stage in the back yard.

Back row: Mark Adams and Logan Adams, Art Clark, Tami Graham, Carola Clark, Randy Graham. Front Row: Joy Ascari, Gino Ascari, Allison Graham with Ryker Graham, Tyler Graham.
On May 31, five generations of one family scheduled a visit to Kenwood Community Church to commemorate the five generations, and to celebrate one of the couples who got married there in 1982, Tami and Randy Graham. Tami's dad Art Clark sang at the wedding and her grandfather Gino Ascari prepared the food. Everyone was happy to see the beautiful and historic old church and remember the good times.

Our annual summer photo contest, Pictures With The Press, is off and running, and already we have some great entries. But don't worry; you still have plenty of time to enter. The deadline is Aug. 22. All you have to do is make sure the Kenwood Press is somewhere in the photo - that's really the only requirement. You could win fame and fortune, or at least the satisfaction of seeing your photo published in the KP. For all the fine print, see page 18.

That's all for now. Thanks to everyone for sending in your news and photos. Reminder: We do NOT publish a July 15th issue of the Kenwood Press. We need a vacation! Our next issue will be out on Aug. 1, and if you have anything for “Village Chat,” get it to us by July 25. It's easy to do. Just email ann@kenwoodpress.com, or call 833-5155 and chat me up! - AQP
