New direction for Kenwood Depot
By Morry Strauss, President, Kenwood Community Club
Kenwood’s iconic depot on Warm Springs Road, operated by the Kenwood Community Club (KCC), will be undergoing a new effort to place the historic landmark on a sound financial footing and to focus its use as a community resource for the village.
The KCC board has found that operating the depot as a commercial event center has not been economically viable for a number of reasons.
The new initiative that we are undertaking will successfully re-focus the depot as a community resource rather than as a commercial service. Our new membership campaign should provide a very stable financial structure that will allow us to not only maintain, but improve the physical site while also substantially expanding the Depot’s utility to the community. In essence, the new membership structure will provide an opportunity for individuals and businesses in Kenwood to directly support what will be a more visible, community-oriented utilization of the depot and integrate the unique cultural and economic aspects of the area as a hub of viniculture and other artistic activity.
The first event to take place under the new approach will be the first Annual Kenwood Invitational Wine Tasteoff in which local wine producers will have an opportunity to present their best vintages in a community celebration setting at the Depot. This will be followed by an art show with the Fine Artists of Kenwood Exhibition. Both events are intended to be annual celebrations of Kenwood and its special qualities.
Board Members Robb Hunt and Paul Kruzic will be contacting Kenwoodians in the near future.
