Young Dems at Democratic Club meeting

Logan Pitts, President of Wine Country Young Democrats, will be the speaker at the Nov. 5 meeting of the Oakmont Democratic Club, at 7 p.m. at the East Recreation Center. Oakmont residents and their guests are invited.

Many politically-active young people today are choosing to remain independent rather than register as Democrats. As the recent Ken Burns documentary on the Roosevelts on PBS illustrated, virtually all social gains of the past 100 years were fought for by progressive-minded leaders, usually over the bitter objections of the Republican party. This includes Social Security, pure food laws, FDIC insurance of bank deposits, voting rights, Medicare and the Affordable Health Care Act.

The Oakmont Democratic Club firmly believes the nation needs the younger generation to join the leadership ranks of the Democratic Party.
