Village Chat

Gael Reed
Many Kenwoodians will remember the beautiful Gael Reed, Kenwood School Kindergarten and first grade teacher from 1992 to 1998. We were very sad to hear that Gael died at the beginning of January, leaving behind her husband Jeffrey and sons Christopher and Matthew.

Jennifer Creeth,
a good friend and fellow teacher at Kenwood School remembered Gael as a “magical teacher who cared deeply for the children and brought a love of learning.” Gael also loved music, and was a beautiful soprano, performing throughout Sonoma County. According to a program description from one of her concerts, as a child, Gael would lie on her bed singing Anglican hymns at the top of her lungs. She often incorporated music into her teaching. After leaving Kenwood School, Gael taught Kindergarten in the Rincon Valley School District.

As Jennifer said, “She was a beautiful soul.”

Bluenote, the heron.
Kari Holmes was delighted in December to see her annual visitor, named Bluenote, show up at her home on Warm Springs Road. Kari was surprised to see the great blue heron at the top of her water tower. She said, “Usually he just looks at his reflection in the pool. Today he was up to something!!!”

Kenwood Kings with Harlem Globetrotter emcee.
The Kenwood Kings basketball team, consisting of eight- to 10-year-olds coached by Mark Clementi, went to the Harlem Globetrotters basketball game at Santa Rosa Junior College on Jan. 7, and and at halftime the emcee came over and posed for a photo with the team. Talk about a fun time!

Karl Keener making some friends at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Karl Keener,
who used to live here, but now lives in Portland, Oregon, was in Green Bay in December and sent us a photo from Lambeau Field. But he did not send us a cheesehead, which is a little disappointing. Karl also gives us a bit of Packer trivia: Curly Lambeau paid $250 for the Green Bay NFL franchise and had to borrow some of it!

Linda Hale pointing out important news in the Kenwood Press to Grand Master Valletta of the Order of St. John. He founded the capital and named it after himself.
In November, Linda Hale went to Malta for the 50-year celebration of the University of California Education Abroad Program in Madrid, Spain. She then visited Jacqueline Hele, an English cousin on Gozo and Malta. Linda said that the family name was Hele in England, but was changed to Hale upon immigration due to the negative connotation of being a “heel.”
