Sonoma Raceway project in front of SVCAC
At its upcoming Feb. 25 meeting, the Sonoma Valley Citizens Advisory Commission (SVCAC) will review a proposal by Sonoma Raceway to add new uses to the racetrack, including a four-day premier music festival with major performers.
In addition to the music event, Sonoma Raceway is asking the county for permission to use existing facilities for a wine tasting room, as well as for private non-racing special events. Currently, the raceway holds a number of racing events, including major NASCAR races.
As part of its request, the raceway is asking for modifications to its use permit, and an amendment to the county’s General Plan since the planning document currently states that activities at the track are limited to “racing and racing related uses.”
Raceway officials envision the music festival using the track for eight potential stage locations. The project description describes the music festival as akin to Outside Lands in San Francisco and the Coachella Valley Music Festival in Coachella, though on a smaller scale.
The SVCAC meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Sonoma Police Department’s Community Room, 177 First St. West, Sonoma.
The SVCAC reviews development projects in Sonoma Valley and makes recommendations to the appropriate Sonoma County or City of Sonoma planning officials.
