Civil Grand Jury seeks applicants

The Sonoma County Superior Court is now accepting applications for the 2015-2016 Civil Grand Jury.

The Sonoma County Civil Grand Jury is an independent institution with the principal function of overseeing all aspects of county, special districts and city governments in the County to ensure that the best interests of its citizens are being served. The 19 Grand Jury members are selected annually from applications submitted by County residents to serve a one-year term. The Civil Grand Jury conducts investigations based on citizen complaints and on its own initiative. The results of the investigations are contained in Final Reports that set forth findings and recommendations.

Are you interested in trying to increase the efficiency of local government, save taxpayer dollars, and improve services? Are you a good listener? Can you cooperate with 18 others towards a common goal? Can you keep a secret? (All your work must be kept confidential.)

Can you ask thoughtful questions, review documents, and help write reports? Have you the ability to commit yourself to a full year of work? Can you contribute a substantial amount of time (at least 20 hours per month) to the Grand Jury? (Many members work 30 hours or more per month on Grand Jury business.)

If you are interested in serving, obtain an application by going to or by sending a request with a self-addressed envelope to Sonoma County Superior Court, Attn: Court Administration, 600 Administration Dr., Santa Rosa CA 95403. For more information, call 521-6501.
