Getting slimy for science
Ricardo Rodriguez (left) and Damian Ramirez Long (right) enjoy cutting open their Market Squid as part of their hands-on science program in Ms. Gauci’s second/third multi grade class at Dunbar Elementary School on March 11. The Hands-on Integrative Science Time is made possible by Friends of Dunbar School PTO with funding from many outside sources, including this year’s generous matching donation from the Republic of Thrift in Sonoma. Through this program, every classroom has up to 10 grade-level appropriate lessons integrating science, math, and art in a hands-on “fun” setting- provided by parent and Glen Ellen resident Dr. Shannon Lee. Students in Ms. Gauci’s class finished up by drawing what they saw inside and outside the squid – and, of course, washing their hands. Photo by Sarah C. Phelps.
