Shaw Park dog area meeting
The next community meeting to discuss a potential off-leash dog area for Shaw Park will be on Monday, Oct. 5, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the park.
A recent survey of the Kenwood Community conducted by Sonoma County Regional Parks showed “significant interest” in providing some kind of limited, off-leash dog area at the park. There were 117 responses to the survey.
At the Oct. 5 meeting, Parks staff will give information and receive feedback regarding off-leash dog parks in other areas. Rules vary depending upon the site, but usually involve limited hours, boundaries so that dogs don’t interfere with a playground or picnic area, signage, and a system to oversee dog owners who don’t watch their dogs, remove pet waste, or have dogs that are overly aggressive. Other sample rules include things like no excessive barking, limiting the number of dogs per person in an off-leash area, requiring that all dogs be licensed and vaccinated, and prohibiting female dogs in heat.
