Free chess classes for kids
Want your child to think strategically, improve math skills, hone verbal skills and have fun? Try chess – for free!
Every Wednesday from 3:15 to 5 p.m. at the Rincon Valley Public Library (6959 Montecito Blvd., Santa Rosa) Castles & Crowns offers free chess lessons to kids between the ages of seven and 18. Founded by Eric Valor, Castles & Crowns has been providing chess classes for kids for the past three years. They are available in several local schools (and you don’t have to attend the school to attend the after school classes) and now free classes are offered at the public library.
“I started with one local school and now teach in four schools throughout Rincon Valley and east Santa Rosa,” said Valor. “Last year I taught 50 to 60 kids each week. Offering chess through the library allows kids and their parents to discover chess at no cost. Today when so many kids find it hard to focus, chess is an ideal tool to help them learn while playing.”
